General fabric guidance for reception seating
Seating in reception and waiting areas is often highly used and may get dirtier than general office seating. It is therefore important to specify an appropriate fabric to ensure that your seating stays looking better for longer.
Fabric manufacturers advise that where this type of seating is to be upholstered in fabric it is best to choose one made with natural fibres. Fabrics made from synthetic substances often allow stains to sit on the surface making the seating look dirtier more quickly, unless they are treated for stain resistance or you can clean the mark quickly.
Many styles of general reception seating are therefore often upholstered in fabrics with a high percentage of wool such as Aquarius and Oxygen or with an inherent stain resistance such as Flamblend or specified with an additional stain resistance coating such as many healthcare fabrics. Fabrics with a high natural fibre content are also better for upholstering larger items such as sofas as they tend not to bag with time. For some seating styles for use in reception and public areas vinyl and faux leather are popular choices because of their easiness to wipe clean. Vinyl is also waterproof and may be antibacterial (depending on which range your choose)
If used by the general public this type of seating should be upholstered in a fabric with at least a medium fire retardency.

Guide for fabrics in healthcare
There are very many fabric and vinyl fabrics which now have inherent antibacterial and waterproof qualities which are used in both the leisure industry and healthcare environments. The type of fabric you require will depend on how and where your seating will be used and the cleaning regimes required in those areas, however there are very many functional and stylish options to choose from.
These types of fabrics cost slightly more than standard office fabrics and this is why there is a premium added to these fabrics when purchasing. However, as you are purchasing fabric suited to its use, your seating will look better for longer. A less suitable fabric will wear less well so the right sort of fabric will be far more economic in the long run.
