Conventional Seat |
Pressure Sensitive Seat |
![]() |
|
| This shows a typical user sitting on conventional seat foam. The yellow and amber areas show pressure where the 'sitting bones' on the lower pelvis support the weight of the entire body. Over sustained periods this intense pressure can cause circulatory problems, pressure sores and back problems. | Sitting on pressure sensitive foam the intense 'hot-spots' of pressure are almost completely elimiated. The firm, but soft foam spreads the body weight across the seat cushion resulting in less pressure and dramatically enhanced long-term comfort |
From 2009 all Therapod and Chiropod will come with the sophisticated ProBax seat foam as standard. This subtly and naturally rotates the pelvis to promote correct posture resulting in a more comfortable sitting experience.
To provide optimal support to the upper body the arms on the standard Therapod and Lite chairs are height adjustable. Arm and wrist support on these chairs is provided through the forwards/backwards and swivel actions of the soft touch polyurethane armpads which allows the user to move the chair close to the desk.
The Therapod 24/7 is supplied with fixed arms. The 7470 and 7478 models have an extra heavy duty height adjustable arm with soft touch pads.
The back fully is supported when you lean forwards or backwards through the action of the British-made advanced synchronised mechanism. For every 1 degree of movment in the back the seat moves 2 degrees. In addition, the seat and back may be moved independently, the back can be locked into one of seven back angle settings. Adjustments are easily made via the patented fingertip control side tension adjustment. (The 24/7 chairs uses a rocking mechanism rather than the above synchronised mechanism.)
All mechanisms have tension springs to suit the weight of the user and the mechanism fitted differs according to the model of chair.

The spine is encouraged to maintain a healthy 'S' curve through the chair's design which promotes a natural forward tilt. This reduces the natural tendency to slouch which occurs when seated for long periods.
This mechanism is available only on the Therapod Independent chairs and offers all the adjustability of the synchro mechanism with the additional adjustability of independent back angle adjustment.
For taller users seat slides are available as an option to allow further adjustment Seat slides allow the user to increase the depth of the seat to accomodate longer or shorter legs. (Not available on 24/7 models)
